Faculty of Political Science

Our faculty has five departments, namely Economics, International Relations, Political Science and Public Administration, Business Administration and Finance, and there are 100% English and Turkish programs in our departments.

Our faculty is located in the South Campus of our University in Dumlupınar Mahallesi D-100 Highway Kadıköy / Istanbul. Most of our administrative units and faculty members are located on the ground floor and the second floor of Blocks A and B in the South Campus. Our lectures are given in the classrooms in Block C, also in the South Campus.  However, our students enrolled in the 100% English program of our departments will study at the School of Foreign Languages ​​in our Tuzla-Orhanlı Campus for one year, as they have to have compulsory preparatory studies.

Our first year students' Fall and Spring Semester course registrations are automatically assigned by our Registrar's Office. After you enroll in the school, you can log in to ÖBS with the password sent to you by our Registrar's Office to access the Student Information System (ÖBS) and access your course schedule.

Starting from the second year, you will make your course registrations yourself from ÖBS together with your advisor. You can check the days / hours that your advisor has made an appointment during the course registration week from our faculty's web page, and visit your advisor on those days and complete your course registration with your advisor.

If you are unregistered and want to register, you can apply to your department chair by stating and documenting your reason for not enrolling until the end of the add / drop period of that semester. If your excuse is deemed appropriate by the faculty board of directors, your course registration is made by your department chair.

 If your weighted grade point average is below 1.80 at the end of the second year, you are defined as a probation student and you cannot take lessons from the fifth semester. You can repeat the courses you have taken before, except the courses you have taken or withdrawn from, except those you have received FF, DD, DC, YZ grades. The rule regarding the minimum course load does not apply to our students on probation.

 If you are not a student on probation, you can take a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 9 courses in one semester. Students with a cumulative grade point average of 2.50 and above will receive +2 lessons; Students who are 3.00 and above can take +3 more lessons.

Students who request a course adjustment must submit a petition to the Head of Department at least 15 days before the course registrations, stating that they request an adjustment, which includes the transcripts and course contents of the courses to be adapted. Later, as a result of the evaluation made by the Department Adjustment Commission, the courses adapted will be forwarded to the Student Affairs Office by our Dean's Office to be processed in the Student Information System (ÖBS). Our students can check their assigned courses from ÖBS.  Note: Our students must request a course adjustment as soon as the summer school is completed.

The course you want to withdraw from the course should not be a course that you have repeated, previously withdrawn or a non-credit course. You cannot withdraw from the first two semesters of education. In other semesters, you can apply to your department chair to withdraw from the course with the approval of your advisor in the 6th week of the relevant semester by making the necessary checks from the Academic Calendar. You can withdraw from at most one course in a semester / year provided that you have not taken the minimum course load or less.

You can get a student certificate with wet signature from our faculty. However, students who request an electronically signed student certificate must apply to the Registrar's Office.

In accordance with the Undergraduate Education Examination Regulations of our university, you are obliged to attend 70% of theoretical courses and 80% of applied courses such as laboratories and workshops. Absent students cannot take the final / year-end and make-up exams. The period in which the students are reported is counted in the absence period in applied courses. Follow-up of absenteeism is done by the lecturer of the course.

You can suspend your registration for a maximum of four semesters, provided that it does not exceed two semesters each time, for health, military service, education in domestic or foreign higher education institutions, financial and family reasons. In order to suspend registration, you can apply to your department chair within the first two weeks of the relevant semester at the latest with a petition indicating your reason. However, if your reason for suspension of registration occurs after the end of the specified period, no time limit will be sought.

Before the end of the period in which you suspend the registration, you must submit your petition to the head of the department that you want to return to education before the course registrations begin.

Compulsory internship for 20 working days is required in the Department of Economics of our faculty. In other departments, the choice is left to our students, and either an internship or a graduation paper is required. Students who do not prefer the Graduation Homework are required to do an internship for 20 working days for the International Relations Department students, 30 working days for the Business Department students, and 20 or 30 working days for the students of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration.  Our students who will do internship should find the internship place themselves and get appropriate from the members of the department internship commission. You can transfer to the departments of our faculty in-house and between institutions, as well as with the Central Placement Score (Annex-item 1).  Application dates for undergraduate transfers are published in the Academic Calendar of our university every year. Quotas, application dates and process information are announced on the web page of the Registrar's Office in time periods determined according to the Academic Calendar. Transfer is not accepted in our faculty.

Departments of our faculty inform the Registrar's Office about double major and minor quotas and from which departments they will accept students. Double Major / Minor application dates are published in the Academic Calendar of our university every year. Quotas, application dates and process information are announced on the web page of the Registrar's Office in time periods determined according to the Academic Calendar.  In order to apply for a double major program, you must have passed all the courses you have to take in your major undergraduate program until the semester you apply, your GPA at the time of application must be at least 3.00, and you must be at the top 20% in the relevant class of your major undergraduate program. You can apply to our Dean's Office for a double major program with your application form and transcript at the earliest at the beginning of the third semester and at the beginning of the fifth semester at the latest.  In order to apply for the minor program, you must have passed all the courses you need to take in your major undergraduate program until the semester you apply, and your GPA at the time of application must be at least 2.50 out of 4.00. You can apply to our Dean's Office for the minor program with your application form and transcript at the beginning of the third and sixth semesters at the earliest.

The provisions of the make-up exam in our faculty's "Examination Directive" are as follows.  (1) Students who cannot take the midterm exam apply to the course supervisor, the make-up exam of the student whose application is accepted is made on the date determined by the course instructor.  (2) Students who cannot take the make-up exams due to valid excuses apply to the faculty with a petition within ten days following the end of the exam week.  (3) Students' right to make-up exam depends on the following conditions:  a) Official institution report on the disease status,  b) The report received from private health institutions in emergencies,  c) A document regarding the death of one of the relatives (mother, father, sibling, spouse, child, etc.)  ç) Document received from official authorities in case of unexpected situations such as traffic accident, fire, flood, earthquake, collapse, demolition,  d) Document received from official authorities in case of detention and / or detention,  e) The emergence of other excuses accepted by the faculty board of directors.  (4) a) In the midterm exams, if there is a conflict between the double major program and the exam schedule of the major program, a make-up exam is granted for the double major course / courses.  b) If there is a conflict between the exams of compulsory and elective courses in midterm exams, a make-up exam is given for elective courses.

Upon your request, you can take a single course exam if you have successfully completed all the courses of the program you enrolled in until the last semester / year, fulfilled your program requirements and your general academic achievement grade point average is 2.00 or higher.  The student who will take the single course exam applies to the head of the department with a petition including a transcript. If a date is not determined in the academic calendar for single course exams, a single course exam is held on the date determined by the relevant department after the make-up exams at the end of the semester / year.

If you have an objection to your exam grade, you must apply to your Department Head with a petition within one week after your grades are announced.  Your objection is reported to the lecturer of the course by your department head and they are asked to review your exam paper again to see if there is any material error. If there is a material error in your exam paper, it is discussed at the Faculty Board of Directors and the necessary corrections are made in your grade by your department chair. If there is no material error, you will be informed that there is no error.

If you successfully complete all the courses of the program you are enrolled in (get 240 and above ECTS), fulfill all the requirements for your program, do not have an FF grade and your GPA is 2.00 or higher, you will be asked to send a petition to the head of the department with your transcript attached at the end of the semester. you can apply. With the decision of the Department Graduation Committee and the Faculty Board of Directors, you can graduate in the mid-term.
